A Note from Judi Stankowich - Past President 2006 - 2008

My last official duty as the GFWC Pennsylvania President was to be your representative at the 2008 GFWC Convention in Chicago - and what an honor that was. It was a spectacular convention with great speakers, awards, workshops and lots of fun. Look for details of the convention in the next issue of the Clubwoman newsletter.

Each year at the International Convention, the GFWC Annual Report highlighting activitites and achievements reported the previous year is distributed. In the most recent report, distributed in Chicago, under Artistic Endeavors, Signs of Creativity, the ongoing service project of The Federated Women's Club of Hershey and their community theater, the Hershey Area Playhouse, is spotlighted.

GFWC Pennsylvania was honored with the following awards. These awards are the direct result of the activities reported by YOU and our member clubs and the outstanding efforts of the state chairmen.

Public Relations for outstanding work that helped create a positive image of women?s clubs, familiarized members and communities with the Federation?s history, mission, and current initiatives, and increased community awareness. Chairman: Carolyn Smith

Empowering Women for outstanding efforts in programs and projects that not only empowered members, but enabled them to empower other women in their communities, states, and regions. Chairman: Claudia Urda

Child Welfare League of America Award for outstanding efforts in advocacy for the wellbeing of children and all youth. Chairmen: Sandy Hauenstein, GFWC Pennsylvania State President's Project and Carol Bogar, GFWC International President's Special Project - Domestic Violence.

GFWC International President's Special Project - Domestic Violence for outstanding programs and projects that supported the prevention of domestic violence by working with various established programs and initiating educational opportunities for club members and local citizens that increased awareness of the widespread occurrence of domestic violence and expanded the number of advocates speaking on behalf of victims and providing the help that is needed. Chairmen: Sandy Hauenstein, GFWC Pennsylvania State President's Project and Carol Bogar, GFWC International President's Special Project - Domestic Violence.

And special congratulations to:

Colin McNamara, GFWC Youth Short Story contest, Category 2 - sponsored by New Century Club of West Chester

GFWC Women?s Civic Club of Schwenksville for receiving the Reaching Out Internationally Program Club Award in the International Affairs Department for their hospitality to the members of the Women's Club of the Philippines who visited during the 2007 GFWC Convention in Philadelphia. Club members invited these women to stay at members' homes for an extra two weeks and showed them the sights in Pennsylvania.

Judi Stankowich,
2006-2008 GFWC Pennsylvania President

HELP GFWC PENNSYLVANIA EARN MONEY
WHILE YOU SEARCH THE INTERNET!

Everyone who has ever looked for information on the Internet has used a search engine – Google,
Ask Jeeves, and Yahoo are popular ones. A new search engine has been launched and when you use it ,
GFWC Pennsylvania will benefit. This search engine has been investigated and is completely legal and
legitimate. Next time you want to do a search, go to www.GoodSearch.com. Just below the line
where you type the subject you will see the words “I’m Supporting”. Underneath is a blank line. Please
type in General Federation of Women’s Clubs Pennsylvania. When you click the Search the Web button,
GFWC Pennsylvania will receive $.01. Now that may not sound like much but we receive a penny
for every search, every time. That will add up quickly if we all use it. The search engine is powered by
Yahoo and is excellent.

If you like, you can download a free toolbar – found just below the organization name. It is a narrow bar
that can be used without visiting the site. Judi Stankowich, President, has been using the site for her
searches for about three weeks with great success. In that short amount of time, with only one user,
funds are already registering. Feel free to click on the Amount Raised button to see where we stand.
The money is sent to the organization annually. Please tell all your friends and family to use this site.
It costs them nothing and we will benefit.
